Cambridge family hosts fundraiser for War Amps

July 21, 2020 – For the last 17 years, Elise Bulla and her dad, Paul Bulla, of Cambridge, host a summer party and concert called “Bullafest” to raise funds for The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program. Despite the pandemic, they came up with a creative solution to livestream the event through Zoom, on Saturday, July 18.

Elise was born a partial left hand amputee and grew up in The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program which provides financial assistance for the cost of artificial limbs and adaptive devices. She also attended CHAMP seminars where “Champs” and their parents learn about the latest in artificial limbs, dealing with teasing and staring, and parenting an amputee child.

Elise said, “I have been honoured to be part of the CHAMP Program since I was born, and just as it has helped me, it has helped support thousands of amputees to receive adaptions to live their best life.”

The funds raised will provide amputees with financial assistance for artificial limbs and programs that will assist them in living with amputation.

Rob Larman, Director of The War Amps PLAYSAFE/DRIVESAFE Program, said, “We are very appreciative of the Bulla’s support over the last 17 years and hosting this event during such a challenging time. Thank you to all who donated and watched the concert online, it is a true testament to community spirit.”

The War Amps receives no government grants and its programs are funded thanks to public support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service.
