Thank you for the safe return of my keys! My car fob would have cost $265 to replace, so I am especially happy to have it back. Joffre

Child Amputees Say, “PLAYSAFE!”

Every year, children who have been seriously injured in lawn mower accidents are enrolled in our Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program. Serious injuries can occur from:

  • Falling off a riding lawn mower while riding with an adult
  • Being run over because the operator does not see them
  • Tripping or slipping under a lawn mower
  • Being hit by debris
  • Being too young to operate the machine

Neveah, Zoe and Jordan all lost limbs in lawn mower accidents. Now, they share their stories about how their accidents happened and warn other kids to spot the danger before they play. This unique “kid-to-kids” approach to safety awareness is at the root of the PLAYSAFE™ Program.

In 1918, when First World War amputees formed The War Amps, never could they have imagined that their legacy would still be going strong 100 years later. In honour of this milestone, we compiled our century-long history into a book, With Courage and Determination: The Story of The War Amps 100 Years of Service. In it, you’ll also find photographs and testimonials from people impacted by the Association over the years.

Since 1918, The War Amps has fought to protect the rights of amputee veterans and address the difficulties they face. Today, we continue to use nearly 100 years of expertise to assist modern-day war amputees, as well as traditional amputee veterans, and to champion their rights.

The National Council of Veterans Associations in Canada.

For many years, The War Amps has worked in close collaboration with NCVA to ensure the position and concerns of seriously disabled veterans and more particularly veteran amputees are identified and recognized in the NCVA Legislative Agenda for submission to the Government/Veterans Affairs Canada/Department of National Defence.

The Canadian Army Newsreels

Canadian Army Newsreels

Filmed by army cameramen during the Second World War, the Canadian Army Newsreels documented Canadian troops in training, in battle and behind the lines. They also provide a fascinating glimpse of Canadian society in the 1940s and the war effort on the home front.

The War Amps, in cooperation with the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) and veterans of the Canadian Army Film Unit, has made the complete set of Canadian Army Newsreels available to the public for the first time on DVD.

Just purchased The Canadian Army Newsreels and my wife and I watched a number of them last night – outstanding and long overdue to be made available to the public. I applaud The War Amps. Well done!Viewer
