Blue Bombers team up with War Amps "CHAMP" to pass on safety message

July 10, 2015 – Having lost his left arm in a farm accident, seven-year-old Ernie Friesen is eager to share his story and alert other kids across Canada of the importance of being safe at play.

Ernie, who has been named The War Amps 2015 National Safety Ambassador, joined Winnipeg Blue Bombers players Rory Kohlert (#87) and Maurice (Moe) Leggett (#31) yesterday, at Investors Group Field, to film this year’s War Amps PLAYSAFE™ public service announcement (PSA).

Ernie was enrolled in The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program soon after his accident and is now using his experience to pass on an essential and possibly life-saving lesson to other children --PLAYSAFE! “Ernie and the players had a lot of fun filming the PSA, while also spreading a powerful message that will reach thousands of people across the country,” said Rob Larman, War Amps PLAYSAFE/DRIVESAFE Director. “We appreciate the tremendous support from the Blue Bombers and the Canadian Football League, in making this event possible,” he added.

For more than 30 years, The War Amps and the Canadian Football League™ have shared a special tradition - the annual PLAYSAFE PSA, saluting the League's support of The War Amps kids-to-kids safety program. Like all War Amps productions, the PSA is funded by corporate donations. It will be broadcast during TSN’s football telecasts starting Thanksgiving weekend, including the CFL® Playoffs, the Grey Cup®, and on other networks and specialty channels.
