1921-2009

Ray Côté

Réal (Ray) Côté was born on October 6, 1921, in the province of Quebec. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and was sent overseas a year later. While in England, he was injured, resulting in the loss of his leg. He was treated in a London hospital and returned to Canada on the Queen Mary hospital ship, after which he was discharged in June 1945.

Mr. Côté soon found a position with the Department of Public Works and joined The War Amps, where he served as:

  • Member, War Amps National Council (1975-1983)
  • President and Treasurer, Montreal Branch
  • National Director, Montreal Branch (2006-2007)

He was a frequent attender of CHAMP seminars in Quebec, where he would share his experiences of living with amputation with child amputees and their families. He received the Honorary CHAMP Membership for his involvement in the program.

Mr. Côté passed away on June 20, 2009.
