Frank Friesen

Frank Friesen was born on March 28, 1925, in Saskatchewan and enlisted with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment in April 1944. He served in England, Belgium, Holland and Germany during the Second World War. In April 1945, he was injured after stepping on a Schu-mine while crossing the Küsten Canal in Germany, resulting in the loss of his left leg below the knee.

When Mr. Friesen returned to Canada, he joined The War Amps Southwestern Ontario Branch and was actively involved as:

• President, Second Vice-President and Secretary, Southwestern Ontario Branch
• National Director, Southwestern Ontario Branch
• Member, Memorials Committee
• Member, War Amps Civilian Liaison Committee

He was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, as well as The War Amps Distinguished Service Membership and Honorary CHAMP Membership.

Mr. Friesen passed away on September 3, 2009.
