Headshot of Dick Myers

1890-1960

Dick Myers

Richard (Dick) Myers was born on September 2, 1890, in Hanley, Staffordshire, England, and served with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry during the First World War. While in Cambrai, France, he suffered a gunshot wound that shattered his ankle, leading to an amputation of his right leg below the knee.

Back in Canada as a civilian, Mr. Myers worked with the Land Titles Office in Toronto, where his knowledge of legal matters proved helpful with the intricate dealings of the sale and purchase of land.

Mr. Myers was an active member of the Association since its inception in 1920 and was known for his in-depth understanding of the Pension Act. This knowledge led him to serve as representative for The War Amps before various parliamentary and Senate committees, among other bodies. He also served in the positions of:

  • Dominion Executive Member, The War Amps (1921-1944)
  • Dominion Secretary, The War Amps

Mr. Myers received the Distinguished Service Membership from The War Amps.

He passed away on March 14, 1960.
