Golf for Arm Amputees

TRS Amputee Golf GripGolf is an interesting sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. Gripping the club can sometimes be a challenge, but with the right adaptations, arm amputees can be in the swing of things.

The TRS Amputee Golf Grip and TRS Golf Pro attach to any standard artificial wrist and are suitable for below-elbow amputees. The Golf Grip is best suited for right hand amputees who swing left handed or left hand amputees who swing right handed. The Golf Pro is best suited for right hand amputees who swing right handed or left hand amputees who swing left handed.

The Troppman GripThe Troppman Grip golf attachment is easy to use as it just slides up into place on the grip of the golf club and it can be used by most upper extremity amputees as it is now available for Below Elbow, Above Elbow, Bottom Hand and Junior golfers. The Junior Troppman Grip is sized for junior clubs and works great for all children looking to try out the great game of golf. For more information please contact Gary Tremblay R.T.P.O.(c) at Troppman Prosthetics 1-866-438-5409 or www.troppmangrip.com.

A custom socket can be designed for the amputee and then golf clubs can be modified to screw into the socket.

Your prosthetist can also make a custom device to help you hold a club, such as a metal sleeve which slides into place over the shaft of a golf club to provide a firm grip.

The Golf Xpress is a single-rider golf car for those with limited mobility that goes everywhere the golfer goes – onto the tees, into the traps and even onto the greens. It runs on rechargeable batteries, has an adjustable restraint system and a wraparound handrail for quick seat positioning, easy transfers on and off the car, and stability for one handed swings.

If you can stand but can’t walk, you can use the adjustable restraint to get into the proper stance and if you can walk short distances, you can drive right up to your ball on the green, fairway, or tee. Of course, to use a golf car on the greens you would need to discuss this requirement in advance with the golf course.

Note: some arm amputees use a one-handed swing and do not use a prosthetic device.
